Helpful Guide to Cleaning Different Types of Floor Surfaces

Keeping floors clean is more than just about appearances. Clean floors are essential for hygiene, safety, and even preserving the value and longevity of the flooring material itself. But not all floors are created equal! Even though we just mop the floors whether they’re of marble or wood, each type of floor requires a tailored approach for effective cleaning without causing damage and using the proper floor cleaning equipment.

HOW TO CLEAN DIFFERENT TYPES OF FLOOR SURFACES

1. HARDWOOD FLOORS

A timeless classic, hardwood flooring are a great option. To maintain their pristine appearance, delicately wipe away dust and dirt with a microfiber mop.

To avoid soaking the wood, use a damp mop rather than a wet one.

To avoid damaging your hardwood floors, only use cleaning products made for hardwood floors

2. TILES

There are a number of reasons why you should keep your tiles and grout clean: unclean tiles can become slippery, and dirty grout can harbor bacteria.

To keep your tiles in good condition and free of scratches, sweep them every day to remove loose dirt.

To avoid damaging the tiles and grout, mop with warm water and a gentle cleanser. Acidic cleaners are not to be avoided. Grout can be gently scrubbed with a brush and a mild cleaning solution to remove tough stains.

3. VINYL FLOORS

Maintaining a clean vinyl surface is essential to preventing scratches and adhesive bond weakening caused by dirt and dampness.

Sweep or vacuum your floors frequently to remove grit and debris and keep them in good condition.

Mop the floor damp with a vinyl-safe cleaner; however, do not drench the floor in water, since this can loosen the adhesive.

Also, don’t use wax or polish on it because it will make it slippery and diminish the finish.

4. LAMINATE FLOORS

Laminate doesn’t do well with moisture. The boards can swell and buckle if exposed to water.

Sweep or vacuum your floors frequently to keep them in good condition and free of marks.

Avoid using steam cleaners and extremely wet mop pads when cleaning. Also, keep away from polishes and soaps because they could leave a film on the surface

5. STONE FLOORS

Although natural stone flooring accentuates any area, if improperly maintained it will readily etch and stain. Strong cleansers and acidic spills can do long-term harm.

Daily sweeping will help you to keep your stone flooring free from dust and avoid scratches.

To minimize damage, use a pH-neutral cleanser designed for stone surfaces. Sealing the stone annually or every two also helps prevent moisture damage and stains, thereby extending the lifetime of beauty on your flooring.

6. CARPETED FLOORS

Carpets need regular care to keep dirt and allergens from getting trapped in their fibers, which can impact air quality.

To maintain your carpets, vacuum them at least once a week and spot clean spills immediately to prevent stains.

For high-traffic areas, consider professional deep cleaning every six to twelve months.

If you have stubborn odors, sprinkle baking soda on the carpet, then mix carpet shampoo with warm water, spray it down, and gently scrub away grime.
